The Venue

A FARMHOUSE THAT DATES BACK TO THE 1800s...
Whetstone Place provides a charming setting for enchanting weddings, receptions, casual gatherings, reunions, and other special occasions. Acres of farmland, a historic farmhouse, a wide lawn with overarching Walnut Trees, and a timber-frame pavilion create unmatched celebrations.

The House

WHETSTONE PLACE was built in 1835. After passing through the hands of several owners, in the early 20th century it became home to many tenants through the 1970s. The historic home was restored in the 80s. Unique features of the 181 year-old home include four fireplaces with original mantles and brick, downstairs windows with original sashes and hand-blown glass panes, and original heart pine flooring and paneling throughout. Bathrooms, a modern kitchen, and central heating and air make the historic home 21st century comfortable.

Whetstone Place was established in 2015. We love sharing this gem of SC's Oconee County and its history with guests visiting the area as well as families and friends getting together to make memories. We hope to see you soon!

Dot Robertson wrote the article "Too Much Life to Let Fall Down" for The Greenville News which was then published in the book Journey Home. Robertson tells the story of the restoration of Whetstone Place in the 80s and all that went into it, "Love." (124)
